If the flight is in the evening/night, it will be dark.

The only place I can read peacefully is on a plane. The engine noise isn't louder than a microwave and it's as steady as white noise. After 15 minutes of flying, your ears get used to it and you can just tune it out.
Bring earplugs if you need absolute silence.
